This stone pounder (reru) is attributed to the Cook Islands. It was possibly used to mash cooked food in a wooden bowl. It is made of calcite from the stalactites and stalagmites found in caves on Mangaia island (Auau Enua). The pounder was donated to the Museum in 1985 by Mr Melbourne Ward who had a private museum in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
