This headrest (urunga, uranga nga tangata or unguna) was collected on Tikopia Island in the Temotu Province of the Solomon Islands. Traditionally, male status required the use of a headrest, although they were optional, not compulsory. Professor Raymond Firth collected the headrest in 1928-29 and the University of Sydney donated it to the Museum in 1988.
