- This wooden model of an outrigger canoe was made on Buka island in the North Solomons. Some canoe models enabled the detailed design of full-size, ocean-going canoes to be passed from one generation to the next, though this one was most likely constructed for the early tourist market. Sir John Murray, appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Papua in 1908, donated the model to the Museum in 1916.
