- This Tabing painting, by unknown artist, the Bridge to Langka, depicts monkeys building a causeway between India and Sri Lanka. This painting on barkcloth is one of the finest in Anthony Forge’s collection. A delicately drawn and detailed painting on bark-cloth is probably from the first half of the 19th century. It may be the oldest painting in the Anthony Forge’s collection. Bark cloth was usually imported from Sulawesi. This is one of only two paintings on bark-cloth in this collection. The colours are local Balinese ochres with imported Chinese black ink and vermillion. Professor Anthony Forge collected this painting from the temple Jero Kapal, in Gelgel, Klungkung District, Bali, and considered it to be one of the best and oldest in his collection. Size 127 x 150cm.
